- Super Eagles midfielder, Raphael Onyedika has been tipped for a move away from Club Brugge this summer.
- The former Midtjylland player still has three years left on his current contract.
Club Brugge boss, Nicky Hayen has revealed that Nigerian midfielder, Raphael Onyedika may be leaving the club this summer, with potential suitors in Saudi Arabia and the English Premier League. According to Hayen, Onyedika prefers a move to England, and with the club having already completed their transfer business, his departure is considered likely.
The 23-year-old joined Club Brugge two years ago for around 10 million euros, starting strongly before experiencing a prolonged dip in form. However, since Hayen took over, the midfielder has regained his top level, particularly excelling in the Play-Offs and playing a crucial role in the team's remarkable comeback to secure the Jupiler Pro League title for 2023/2024.
Hayen acknowledged Onyedika's value to the team but emphasized that his departure would not disrupt their plans, as they have already completed their transfer homework. The manager also mentioned that Onyedika has been struggling with fitness issues, having been sick last week and still not fully recovered.
While Hayen expressed his desire to enjoy Onyedika's talents for a bit longer, he conceded that the midfielder's departure is a real possibility
"That chance is real. At the end of last season, that was also the case. We work with the players who are there and our homework has already been done. Onyedika was a bit sick last week and is still not one hundred percent fit. But he has already shown in the meantime what value he has for the team. So I hope we can enjoy that for a while longer," he said during his press conference in quotes relayed by Voetbal Nieuws.
Club Brugge is eager to sell Onyedika, with Ardon Jashari available as a replacement. The club hopes to receive around 20 million euros for the central midfielder, a significant profit on their initial investment.
