  • In the latest FIFA rankings, Nigeria's Super Eagles have dropped five places to the 40th position following their recent disappointing results against Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

After suffering a shock 1-0 loss in the first leg of the qualifiers in Abuja, Nigeria managed to bounce back with a victory in the reverse fixture at the September 12 Stadium in Bissau. However, this was not enough to prevent them from slipping down the rankings.

Nigeria, previously ranked 35th in the world, have now fallen to the 40th position, making them the sixth-best team in Africa. World Cup semifinalists Morocco, African champions Senegal, and the trio of North African giants Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt are all ranked higher than the Super Eagles.

Meanwhile, Morocco are now Africa's number one rated side after their exploits at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and an impressive recent victory over Brazil.

The Selecao, however, paid the price for that defeat as they dropped to the third place, with World Cup champions Argentina claiming the top spot.

France, on the other hand, have climbed to the second position after two victories against Netherlands and Ireland in the last round of EUROS qualifiers.

The top ten positions in the FIFA rankings are currently occupied by Belgium, England, Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, in addition to the top three teams mentioned above.
