  • Major League Soccer side New England Revolution, have announced the signing of Super Eagles Lynchpin Alhassan Yusuf.
  • The 24-year-old joins the US based club from Belgian First Division A giants Royal Antwerp.

Through a statement on their official website, Major League Soccer club New England Revolution, has secured the services of Super Eagles midfielder midfielder Alhassan Yusuf from Belgian club Royal Antwerp FC. The 24-year-old's arrival is a significant coup for the Revolution, who have been bolstering their squad in the 2024 secondary transfer window.

Yusuf's impressive credentials make him an exciting addition to the Revolution's midfield. With three years of experience in the Belgian topflight under his belt, he has won three trophies, including the 2022-23 Belgian Pro League championship and 2022-23 Belgian Cup. His performances earned him the club's Player of the Month award in August 2022.

On the international stage, Yusuf has represented Nigeria seven times, featuring in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup qualifiers. His Champions League experience, including a goal against FC Porto and an assist against FC Barcelona, showcased his ability to perform on the biggest stage.

The Revolution's Sporting Director, Curt Onalfo, hailed Yusuf's arrival, stating, "Alhassan is a talented player with title-winning experience in the prime of his career. His competitive drive, excellent vision and passing, and tenacious tackling will all raise the level of our team."

Head Coach Caleb Porter echoed Onalfo's sentiments, saying, "Yusuf is an athletic, box-to-box central midfielder that has all the qualities we look for in our double pivots. He is very complete on both sides of the ball and will bring ball winning defensively and verticality to our attack."

Yusuf's signing is the latest in a string of moves by the Revolution, who have also added U22 forward Luca Langoni, defenders Will Sands, and Tim Parker in the 2024 secondary transfer window. The team will officially resume the MLS regular season against CF Montreal on August 24.
