Osimhen stars as Super Eagles run riot over Sao Tome & Principe
In their second Group A encounter of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, the Super Eagles ran riot over a feeble Sao Tome and Principe team, winning by ten unanswered goals.
The result of the game now makes it Nigeria's biggest ever football victory, and it is the second time the country has scored ten goals in a game, following a 10-1 win over Dahomey (modern day Benin Republic) on November 28, 1959.
Victor Osimhen was a threat all through the game as he scored four goals and provided two assists.
Terem Moffi bagged a brace, as he opened his Super Eagles goalscoring account. Ademola Lookman also scored his first goal for the Super Eagles.
Head coach, Jose Peseiro made four changes for the game, starting Ademola Lookman, Zaidu Sanusi, Oghenekaro Etebo, and Terem Moffi.
Simon scored once and assisted once, while wearing the captain's armband following the injury to William Troost-Ekong in the game against Sierra Leone in Abuja on Thursday.
Late in the game, Emmanuel Dennis scored from the spot after being brought down in the penalty box.
The win propelled the Eagles to the top of Group A, and they will be back in action in the qualifiers in September when they play Guinea-Bissau for their third match.
