Nigeria beat Uganda to advance to the U20 AFCON semifinals

- The Flying Eagles have advanced to the semifinals of the 2023 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament after forcing a 1-0 defeat down the throat of Uganda at the Suez Canal Stadium on Thursday.
The quarter-final matchup between Nigeria, runners-up in Group A, and Uganda, leaders of Group B, lived up to its pre-match billing, with both teams serving up a back-and-forth attacking display.
However, the Flying Eagles edged the contest thanks to Ibrahim Juma's own in the 30th minute. Ibrahim Mohammed got past his marker on the left flank before smashing a fierce shot against the post. The ball ricocheted across the goal, only to strike Juma and roll into the Ugandan net.
With the win, the Flying Eagles became the second team to progress to the semifinal of the competition. Earlier in the day, Senegal defeated the Benin Republic 1-0 to book their spot in the tournament's last four stage.
The Flying Eagles have also secured their spot at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup taking place in Indonesia from May 20 - June 11, 2023.
