Through a statement on their official website, Wellington Phoenix has announced the signing of English-Nigerian goalkeeper Josh Oluwayemi for the upcoming Australian A-League season. The 23-year-old joins the Nix from Finnish club FC Lahti, bringing a wealth of experience and skill to the team.
Oluwayemi, who honed his skills at Tottenham Hotspur's youth academy, is eager to make his mark in the A-League. "I'm buzzing to be joining the Phoenix," he said. "Their game style and quality are exciting, and I'm looking forward to being part of a team that did well last season."
Phoenix head coach Giancarlo Italiano is thrilled to have secured Oluwayemi's services. "Josh has a fantastic presence and is very good with his feet," Italiano said. "He'll add to the way we want to play, and his presence in the box will be valuable."
Goalkeeper coach Ruben Parker is equally impressed with Oluwayemi's abilities. "He dominates the 18-yard box and makes saves in key moments," Parker said. "His ambition and hunger to progress his career align with our team's goals."
Oluwayemi describes himself as an agile and explosive goalkeeper who refined his ability to play out from the back while in Finland. "I want to continue showing my level and make a strong impact on the team," he said.
The gloves man was called up to the Super Eagles squad for an international friendly game again Mexico. 20 years of age at the time, the team lost by an embarrassing 4-0 loss at the sound of the final whistle on that day.
