- Victor Osimhen joins Super Eagles in Uyo ahead of AFCON qualifier against Benin Republic, boosting Nigeria's chances with his return.
- The 25-year-old's arrival follows a turbulent transfer window, and he's set to play a key role in Nigeria's crucial matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
The wait is finally over! Victor Osimhen, Nigeria's prolific striker, has joined his Super Eagles teammates in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, ahead of the crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Benin Republic.
The Napoli-owned forward, who has been making headlines with his impressive performances in Europe, arrived on Thursday.
Osimhen's delayed arrival was due to his protracted transfer saga, which saw him linked with top European clubs like PSG, Chelsea, and Al Ahli.
However, he eventually sealed a season-long loan move to Galatasaray, paving the way for his return to international duty.
The 25-year-old's arrival has sent waves of excitement through the Super Eagles camp, with teammates and officials welcoming him with broad smiles and warm handshakes.
His presence is expected to be a significant boost to the team, which has struggled to find its footing in recent matches.
Under interim manager Austin Eguavoen, the Super Eagles have been preparing for the Benin Republic encounter since Tuesday, September 3.
The striker has not featured for Nigeria since leading the team to the 2023 AFCON final against Ivory Coast in Abidjan.
The Super Eagles will face Benin Republic on Saturday, September 7, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, followed by a match against Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium on Tuesday, September 10.
