After a dismal season, the Black Eagles are hoping to replicate their title winning form by signing the Nigerian attacker ahead of the next season.
Besiktas, the reigning Super Lig winners, are reportedly interested in Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru, according to many Turkish media sites, including Birinci Haber.
Onyekuru is currently contracted to Olympiacos, a Greek club he signed for four and a half million euros last summer after leaving Monaco.
However, his stint in Greece has not gone according to plan, with the Nigerian international scoring only one goal and providing one assist in 27 appearances for Olympiacos across all competitions.
The 24-year-old, on the other hand, has a lot of suitors in Turkey, where he flourished at Galatasaray. He scored 22 goals and added 12 assists in 71 appearances across three loan periods.
Trabzonspor have already chosen Onyekuru as the ideal successor for Anthony Nwakaeme should the veteran striker refuse to extend his contract with the Black Sea Storms, as Fotosport reported.
Besiktas, on the other hand, is even more keen to strengthen their team, which is now in seventh place in the league table. With five games remaining, the Black Eagles are very set to deliver Trabzonspor the league title they earned last season.
With Canadian attacker Cyle Larin expected to depart Besiktas on a free transfer this summer, the Black-and-Whites are eyeing Onyekuru as a potential replacement.
Besiktas are expected to make a bid for Onyekuru whenever club manager Valerien Ismael approves the transfer.
