- UD Granadilla Tenerife (UDG Tenerife) have officially announced the acquisition of the talented Super Falcons forward, Esther Okoronkwo.
- The 26-year-old has joined the Liga F side from the French club, Saint-Étienne.
UDG Tenerife confirmed the transfer through their social media channels, making Okoronkwo the club's first signing for the highly anticipated 2023/2024 season. The accomplished striker has signed a lucrative two-year deal, keeping her at the club until 2025.
This move reunites Okoronkwo with her compatriot, Gift Monday, further strengthening the Nigerian presence within UDG Tenerife. Her arrival aims to bolster the club's attacking capabilities after struggling to find the back of the net in the previous campaign. UDG Tenerife only managed a mere 35 goals, the second-lowest tally among the top-half teams.
During the 2022-2023 season, Okoronkwo played a pivotal role in AS Saint-Étienne's successful ascent to the French D1.
Prior to her time in France, she made a name for herself at the United States-based Lamar Lady Cardinals, where her remarkable scoring record of 35 goals in 39 games caught the attention of Saint-Étienne's scouts.
Having made her Super Falcons debut in 2021, the free-scoring striker scored her first international goal against Costa Rica during the 2023 Women's Revelations Cup in February.
