Super Falcons midfielder Esther Onyenezide has ditched Spanish side Real Madrid Feminine for Israeli Women's League outfit Hapoel Jerusalem. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who joined Madrid CFF last summer, struggled to secure regular playing time, prompting her to seek new challenges.
Onyenezide's arrival at Hapoel Jerusalem was announced on the club's social media handle. The Nigerian international excelled at the U20 World Championship, where her team reached the quarterfinals, and was named Player of the Match after scoring twice in Nigeria's 3-1 victory over Canada.
The Israeli club welcomed the lynchpin, citing her "game vision, physicality, and excellent set pieces" as valuable assets to their squad. Her move to Hapoel Jerusalem marks a new chapter in her career, as she seeks to establish herself as a key player.
Onyenezide's transfer is a significant coup for Hapoel Jerusalem, who have bolstered their squad with a talented and experienced player. Notably, Onyenezide has already gained recognition at the senior level, having been capped by Nigeria.
Reacting to the move, the FC Robo Queens alumni took to social media to express her delight over the move, saying: "It can only be God, forever grateful".
