Through a statement on their official website, Barnsley Football Club have secured the signature of Nigerian international midfielder Kelechi Nwakali, from Portuguese outfit G.D Chaves. The 26-year-old maestro has put pen to paper on a three-year deal, subject to visa and international clearance.
The Diamond Football Academy alumni, burst onto the scene at the 2015 U17 World Cup, where he captivated Arsenal scouts with his exceptional skill, earning the Golden Ball award as the tournament's best player. His subsequent move to the Gunners marked the beginning of a nomadic journey, with loan spells across Europe honing his craft.
The midfielder's experience in La Liga with Huesca, as well as stints with Alcorcón and Ponferradina in Spain, has primed him for the Championship challenge. Last season's 32 appearances in the Primeira Liga with Chaves demonstrated his adaptability and dedication.
The former VVV-Venlo lynchpin's international pedigree is equally impressive, having represented Nigeria at various youth levels before making his senior debut in 2022.
