- West Bromwich Albion has secured the permanent signing of the former Bordeaux striker, Josh Maja.
- The 24-year-old forward, who dazzled with 16 goals and six assists during the last season, has committed to a three-year contract at The Hawthorns after making a remarkable impression in south-west France.
Hailing from London, Maja began his professional journey at Sunderland, debuting in the Carabao Cup when he was a mere 17 years old.
He garnered valuable experience while playing in the Sky Bet Championship and League One with the Black Cats.
In the first half of the 2018/19 campaign, the talented striker turned heads with a remarkable 15 goals from just 24 league matches, capturing the attention of Ligue 1 side, Bordeaux. On his 20th birthday in January 2019, he embarked on a new chapter with the French club.
Subsequent loan spells at Premier League side Fulham and Championship team Stoke City followed before he eventually reclaimed his spot in Bordeaux's starting XI at the Matmut Atlantique.
Carlos Corberán, the head coach at Albion, expressed his delight, saying, "I am happy to have Josh here at the club. It was an important aim of ours to reinforce this position during the summer. We have done so with a player who has a big desire to succeed."
Corberán praised Maja's international and Premier League experience, highlighting how his skills perfectly complement Brandon Thomas-Asante, making them a potent attacking force together or individually. With Maja's ability to drop deep to initiate attacks and his keen instincts in the box, he is poised to make a significant impact.
West Brom concluded last season in the EFL Championship in a respectable 9th place among the 24 competing teams. With Maja now on board, the team's prospects are looking even brighter as they strive for future success.
