English EFL Championship club, Cardiff City are set to announce the signing of Nigeria international, Jamilu Collins, from SC Paderborn on a free transfer.
Collins will become the club's fourth signing pending the outcome of his medical (May 19th), WalesOnline reports.
Following the expiration of his contract with Bundesliga 2 club SC Paderborn, where he spent the previous five seasons, the 27-year-old is expected to join on a free transfer.
The Super Eagle's versatility is a significant positive, as he can play center-back, wing-back, and on the left side of midfield, although his favourite position is left-back.
Cardiff desperately need to strengthen this position. The Bluebirds are resigned to the idea that former loanee, Ryan Giles has his sights set on a Premier League loan next season, with Joel Bagan the only recognized senior left-back.
Collins, on the other hand, was spotted by Cardiff's recruitment squad earlier this year and has been monitored by the club ever since. He played 90 minutes for Nigeria in their 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau at this year's Africa Cup of Nations, and Cardiff were there to see.
The Bluebirds also sought references on the player from contacts in this country. Former Cardiff defender Semi Ajayi, who is now at West Brom and was Collins' international teammate, is said to be one of those who gave a favourable recommendation.
Cardiff were to cast their net further afield this summer, according to WalesOnline, in the hopes of finding bargains on the European market. Collins is expected to be just that, according to club insiders.
He spent five seasons with Croatian club Rijeka before joining Paderborn, where he shone like a million stars.
Collins has appeared for the Super Eagles in 25 games.
An official announcement is expected in the next 48 hours.
