Promising Nigerian talent, Ebenezer Akinsamiro has joined Italian Serie B club UC Sampdoria on a season-long loan from Inter Milan.
Sampdoria announced the completion of the deal after Akinsamiro passed his medicals on Friday, July 19.
Initially, there were reports that Akinsamiro was close to leaving Inter Milan to join Sampdoria, with the move pending a medical examination.
However, the transfer faced complications. Sampdoria wanted a permanent deal, while Inter Milan preferred a loan arrangement.
In the end, the two teams settled for a deal that allowed Sampdoria to initially acquire Akinsanmiro on loan with an option to buy and a buy-back clause inserted in the setup.
The club's statement read, "U.C. Sampdoria announces that it has acquired on an annual basis, with an option and counter-option right from F.C. International, the rights to the sports performance of footballer Ebenezer Akinsamiro (born in Lagos, Nigeria, on November 25, 2004). The midfielder is tied to the Blucerchiati until June 30, 2028."
Akinsamiro is expected to help Sampdoria, who finished 7th in Serie B last season, compete for promotion to Serie A.
The youngster began his professional career with Remo Stars in 2020 and was part of the team that earned promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League.
He joined Inter Milan on January 31, 2023, on a four-year contract. On May 24, 2023, he was an unused substitute in Inter Milan's Coppa Italia final win over Fiorentina. The young midfielder made his debut for Inter on February 25, 2024, as a substitute in a 4–0 victory over Lecce.
The 19-year-old will look to continue his development at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium under head coach Andrea Pirlo, one of the finest Italian midfielders in history.
