  • Both teams have qualified for every edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup

The Super Falcons took on the USWNT in two international friendly fixtures. as part of their preparation for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup scheduled to take place in Australia and New Zealand next year.

The Nigerian women team were soundly defeated 4-0 in the opening friendly match at Kansas City's Children's Mercy Park.

The second fixture was played at the Audi Field in Washington DC, The Super Falcons got off to a shaky start as Tosin Demehin scored an own goal in the 20th minute to give the USWNT the lead.

The USWNT led 1-0 at the half, but the Super Falcons scored first in the second half when Uchenna Kanu finished a beautiful pass that Glory Ogbonna gave her in the 50th minute.

Rose Lavelle's goal in the 66th minute gave the USWNT the lead back after the game had been evenly matched up to that point.

The USWNT managed to secure a victory despite the Super Falcons' best efforts to find an additional equalizer.

In slightly positive news, the Super Falcons were able to end a 22-year goalless streak against USA through Kanu strike. The Falcons had failed to find the back of the net against the Americans since Mercy Akide's goal at the 2000 Olympics.

On Thursday, October 6, at the Misaki Park Stadium, the Super Falcons of Nigeria will play again when they take on the Nadeshiko of Japan in a friendly match.
