Following the incidents of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier against Ghana in Abuja, FIFA slapped the Nigeria Football Federation with a $150,000.00 fine and a one-match suspension behind closed doors.
The latest FIFA Disciplinary Report, dated April 28th, 2022, and made available to the press on Monday, May 2nd, 2022, includes these punishments.
During the match on March 29, 2022, Nigeria was found to have failed to "ensure law and order is maintained in the stadium, invasion of the field of play, and throwing of items."
In Algeria's match against Cameroon, they were fined roughly $3000 for "throwing objects and lighting fireworks."
Following Senegal's sanction of nearly $170,000.00 for their match against Egypt on the same date, Nigeria received the second highest fine.
"Laser pointing and usage of things to broadcast a message that is not appropriate for a sporting event" are among Senegal's transgressions. As part of the punishment, Senegal, like Nigeria, will have to play one match behind closed doors.
Nigeria's first home game since that loss will be the encounter against Sierra Leone on June 9th, 2022.
