- The draws for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup were made on Friday in Zurich
- Nigeria’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles, were drawn in Group D alongside Brazil, Italy, and Dominican Republic.
Nigeria finished third at the U-20 AFCON earlier this year, which sealed their spot at the 2023 U20 World Cup.
However, they have been handed a tough draw as they face powerhouse Brazil, who have won the tournament five times, just one behind Argentina, making them the second most successful team in the competition.
The Flying Eagles will begin their campaign against the Dominican Republic on the 21st of May, then play Italy three days later before concluding their group stage matches against Brazil on the 27th of May. The top two teams from each group qualify for the knockout stage, and the best four third-placed teams will join them in the round of 16.
The tournament was originally scheduled to hold in Indonesia, but FIFA moved it to Argentina due to political issues. Nigeria's U-20 team, led by Ladan Bosso, will look to make their mark and possibly bring home the trophy for the first time in the country's history.
