English Premier League
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu tasted victory for the first time since joining Southampton after the Saints produced a shocking 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Onuachu featured for almost an hour as a brilliant James Ward-Prowse freekick just before halftime earned the maximum points for the visitors and boosted their survival chances.
Over at Goodison Park, Alex Iwobi claimed his sixth assist of the season to help Everton secure a narrow but hugely important 1-0 win over Leeds United. The victory only barely keeps the Toffees out of the relegation zone.
At the City Ground, Emmanuel Dennis was an unused substitute while injured Taiwo Awoniyi was not in the matchday squad as a late Chris Wood goal lifted Nottingham Forest to a decent 1-1 draw against champions Manchester City.
La Liga
In Spain, Samuel Chukwueze scored his second league for Villarreal, but it proved insufficient as the Yellow Submarines fell to a 4-2 loss away to Mallorca.
Serie A
Nigerian forward Isaac Success was introduced in the second half, but his contribution did not help Udinese avoid losing 3-1 to Inter Milan at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
French Ligue One
Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi continued to fire blanks as OGC Nice and Reims played out a goalless draw. Moffi remains without a goal since leaving Lorient for Nice on the transfer deadline day.
First Division A
In Belgium, Union Saint Gilloise succumbed to a deflating 4-2 defeat at home to Standard Liege despite Victor Boniface netting his fifth league goal of the campaign in that encounter.
