Meet Michelle Klostermann: Germany-Based Left-Back Keen on Representing Nigeria

  • Michelle Klostermann, a German-Nigerian left-back, is eligible to play for Nigeria's Super Falcons.
  • The 23-year-old has expressed a strong interest in switching allegiance from Germany and has requested a Nigerian passport.

Ashleigh Plumptre, Glory Ogbonna, Nicole Payne, Chidinma Okeke; These are names that quickly come to mind when thinking about left-backs in the Nigerian Senior Women's National Team, The Super Falcons.

With Plumptre being first choice in the pecking order of that position, a worthy and reliable back-up has been somewhat difficult to come by in recent times.

Glory Ogbonna and Chidinma Okeke are both solid defensive options in times where the team needs to sit back and keep their opponents at bay.

However, they seem to struggle offensively and most times fail to provide the much needed overlaps for their colleagues on the left wing.

Nicole Payne on the other hand flourishes in the areas where the formers seem to struggle, but can be defensively shambolic when it's just not her day in the office.

In the ashes of this subtle crisis, a solution just might have emerged from the North Western parts of Germany; Meet Michelle Klostermann.

Born on the first day of March 2001 in Castrop-Rauxel to a German Father and a Nigerian mother, the talented left-footed defender is eligible to represent Nigeria internationally through her Nigerian Mum.

The 23-year-old began her career at VFB Wolfsburg Women in 2017. She featured in three seasons for the club, managing just one appearance for the B team in the 2020/2021 season.

She then proceed to join Hungarian side Ferencvaros in search of first team football, which wasn't very successful. In 2022 she returned to Germany joining SC Sand.

At SC Sand she made a combined total of 39 appearances in two seasons, racking up seven goal contributions (six goals and one assist) along the way. She then joined VFL Bochum in 2024.

Internationally, she is a former youth international for Germany at U-16 level. Her lone appearance was at the 2017 UEFA U-16 Women's Development Tournament coming on as a substitute against Portugal.

Fortunately, she is still eligible to represent Nigeria without a nationality switch, by virtue of not attaining FIFA's bench mark of three competitive games which would provisionally captied her to her country of birth.

EaglesTracker can exclusively confirm with certainty that the player is very keen on representing the nine-time African Queens, in a chat with Player's agent.

"We’ve been in contact to Randy Waldrum already before, because it is a big dream to play for the Super Falcons. So I know Michelle has requested a new Nigerian passport." Her agent reveals.

All eyes will now be on the leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation, to advance for the talented Left-footer who can play as a Left wing-back and also as a Left-midfielder.
