Barcelona's Asisat Oshoala out for ten weeks

After suffering another physical setback, Barcelona's Asisat Oshoala has been ruled out for ten weeks. She will miss Nigeria's crucial 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying play-off in Ivory Coast.

Her Spanish club revealed that the four-time African Women's Footballer of the Year injured her left thigh while training with Nigeria and will be out for at least 10 weeks.

Oshoala has 19 goals in 16 games for Barcelona this season and is the top scorer in the Spanish top flight. She has only recently returned after a two-month layoff due to a knee injury.

She missed the Super Falcons' 2-0 win over Ivory Coast on Friday and will not play in the second leg on Wednesday in Abidjan.

Oshoala became the first African player to win the UEFA Women's Champions League, with Barcelona in 2021. She is unlikely to return before the end of April. This means she will miss both legs of next month's sold-out Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid.

The 27-year old was expected to be a vital player for the Super Falcons against the Ivorians.
