EaglesTracker Awards Day 1: Taiwo Awoniyi wins Most Improved Player of the Season, Odion Ighalo and Calvin Bassey shine

The EaglesTracker Awards 2022 started with glitz and glamour as several Nigerian football stars picked up various awards.

On Wednesday, the virtual ceremony kicked off with the Golden Boot award. Al Hilal's Odion Ighalo was crowned as the highest goalscoring Nigerian footballer for the 2021-2022 season. The 33-year-old scored 28 goals in 38 games for the Saudi Arabian giants.

Super Falcons and Paris FC goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie received the Golden Glove award after guiding her club to its first UWCL appearance. The youngster had nine clean sheets in 25 appearances.

No doubt some major step-ups were made by Nigerian Footballers in the 2021-2022.

FC Union Berlin striker, Taiwo Awoniyi won the EaglesTracker Most Improved Player of the Season award.

In the 2020-2021 season, the Ilorin born had seven goal contributions (4 goals and 3 assists) in 21 appearances but fortunes changed as he scored 20 and assisted five in 43 outings.

Having had a fantastic outing in his first full season as a professional footballer, Yira Sor was crowned EaglesTracker Rookie Of The Season. 

The former Nigerian youth International scored 11 goals and assisted nine for Czech Republic champions, Slavia Prague. 

The last award for the night went to Ranger's Calvin Bassey. He received the award for the Revelation of the Season after having a bitter-sweet campaign with the Gers.
