Suleiman Abdullahi joins IFK Goteborg on a three-year deal
Swedish Allsvenskan club, IFK Goteborg have announced the signing of 25-year old striker, Suleiman Abdullahi, on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at FC Union Berlin.
The former El-Kanemi Warriors player joined the Berlin side initially on loan in August 2018, and the signing was made permanent in July 2019 following the club's promotion to the German top flight.
However, Abdullahi struggled to perform at this level, and he was loaned back to his former side, Eintracht Braunschweig in the 2. Bundesliga the following summer. Union Berlin announced his departure at the end of the 2021/2022 season.
"We are recruiting a player with great potential who has also shown before that he can deliver in Scandinavian football. We believe that Suleiman can lift in our environment and reach the same high level even in an all-Swedish context. What stands out most to me is his physique, speed and goal danger", says Goteborg head coach Mikael Stahre.
Abdullahi had a spell with Viking FK in the Norwegian Toppserien, where he scored 15 goals and provided 7 assists in 46 appearances over the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
