  • The Fédération Internationale de Football Association, FIFA, has released the rankings for February 2024.
  • The latest update, released just after the end of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, sees Nigeria enjoy a rise in the rankings.

Following their impressive showing at the AFCON in Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria's Super Eagles move up 14 places to become the 28th-best nation in the world.

Nigeria, who began the AFCON in sixth place in Africa, are now the third-best footballing team on the continent.

Morocco and Senegal, who were eliminated from the AFCON in the first knockout round, remain the best two African nations on the FIFA ranking.

After recording four wins, one draw, and one defeat over the last month, Nigeria jumped past Algeria, Egypt, and Tunisia into the top three.

The Pharaohs sit in fourth place, while new Africa champions Cote 'Ivoire rise to fifth, two spots behind beaten finalist Nigeria.

Tunisia, Algeria, Mali, Cameroon, and South Africa complete the continent's top ten teams.

On the global scale, world champions Argentina are still the best team on the planet, followed by France.

England, Belgium, and Brazil make up the famous top five.
