- Five-time world champions, Nigeria's Golden Eaglets have been drawn in Group B alongside South Africa, Morocco and Zambia in the 2023 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The competition, in its 15th edition, will be hosted in Algeria between 29 April and 19 May 2023. The draw ceremony was held on Wednesday, at the Cercle National de l’Armée in Algiers.
Coached by former Nigerian international, Nduka Ugbade, the Golden Eaglets head to the continental championship as the WAFU B champions, following their regional tournament success last year.
The most successful U17 team with five world titles, the Golden Eaglets will be aiming for a record third African title in Algeria, after lifting the continental trophy in 2001 and 2007.
The team's first challenge will be to navigate past a group that has 2015 runners-up, South Africa; 2013 fourth-place finisher Morocco and first-timers, Zambia.
Hosts and 2009 runners-up, Algeria are placed together with Senegal, Congo, and Somalia in Group A.
Two two-time winners, Cameroon and former champions, Mali will do battle with Burkina Faso and South Sudan for Group C's qualifying spots.
The four semifinalists will book their place at the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup taking place in Peru from November 10 - December 2, 2023
