Calvin Bassey made his UEFA Champions League debut on Wednesday, when Ajax hosted his former side, Rangers in the Amsterdam stadium for their Group A opener.
The 22-year-old put in a solid and scintillating performance as Rangers FC were thrashed 4-0 as Calvin provided an assist to one of the goals.
In an interview with Ajax TV, Calvin Bassey revealed how he felt playing in the Champions League for the first time.
“I had the smile and it’s every kid’s dream. To play in the Champions League and the sound is like a blessing honestly. It’s a surreal moment. I just tried to calm down and not let the pressure get to me while I focus on the game. After that, naturally, I just calmed down. I was nervous up until the game but when the game started I was fine. It’s one of the best days of my life, one of the best days of my career obviously,” he concludes.
The Super Eagles defender joined Ajax during the summer in a deal worth £23m. He penned a contract with Ajax for five seasons until mid-2027.
